How it’s counted

Every number is a count of public records, placed on a map and matched to the site they’re on. Each number links to a list of the sites behind it, so it can be checked row by row.

Derelict sites on the register

Entries on each council's Derelict Sites Register (Derelict Sites Act 1990), counted once per register reference. Entries the council has removed are not counted. Source: Council derelict sites registers (Derelict Sites Act 1990), checked 25 Sept 2026.

Council land sale notices, last 3 years

Notices of a proposed sale or lease of council land under section 183 of the Local Government Act 2001, put to council or area committee meetings in the last three years, from the meeting agendas. Permissions running out in the next 12 months

Homes permitted, not started

Stalled building sites

Building jobs of 10 or more homes (or 1,000 m² or more) with a commencement notice lodged at least three years ago, no completion certificate, and a planned finish more than a year ago or none given. RZLT land with no permission for homes

Hectares of parcels of 0.1 ha or more on each council's latest Residential Zoned Land Tax map (the final map when published, otherwise the draft) with no live permission for 10 or more homes.
